William & Kate: Engagement Ahead?

February 9th, 2010 by Ella under Britain

The Mandrake column in the Telegraph this past weekend claims that an engagement announcement from Prince William and Kate Middleton is looking more likely, based on some reports from Kate’s hometown of Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Richard Eden writes, “It can be disclosed that William’s prospective father-in-law, Michael Middleton, is considering taking a step back from running his successful family business. Friends in the Berkshire village of Bucklebury have interpreted this as a signal that the former airline pilot wants to concentrate on preparations for a Royal wedding later this year.”

Michael and Carole Middleton, Kate’s parents, run Party Pieces, a successful mail-order party supply business.  Kate also works for the family firm.

Eden also quotes two unnamed Middleton family friends, one of whom thinks that “an engagement announcement is imminent” and another who believes that William and Kate are as good as engaged already, with only the date of the nuptials still to be decided.

(I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve decided to do just what William told all of us to on his trip Down Under — “wait and see.”)

Nikolaos & Tatiana: Engaged Embraces

February 8th, 2010 by Ella under Greece

The former king and queen of Greece held a press conference at the Yacht Club of Greece near Athens last week to give the world a few more details about the engagement between their son, Prince Nikolaos, and his fiancée, Tatiana Blatnik.

The newly affianced couple happily posed for pictures with their parents and shared some details about their wedding, which they hope will take place in Greece.  No date has yet been set, but they’re hoping for some time in August of this year.

We also learned a few more details about Tatiana’s engagement ring.  It’s a sapphire, and Nikolaos was given the stone by his mother, Queen Anne-Marie, who reportedly received it from her parents, King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark.

This year really could be quite the royal wedding bonanza, couldn’t it?  Victoria in June, Nikolaos in August, and perhaps Madeleine in October or November?

Frederik & Mary and Joachim & Marie: Gala Glamour

January 29th, 2010 by Ella under Denmark

The Danish royal family gathered this week at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen for a gala dinner, and both of the Danish princesses looked lovely on the arms of their respective princes.  Crown Princess Mary wore a midnight blue gown, paired with a fur shrug, and topped with the tiara she wore on her wedding day in 2004.  Her sister-in-law, Princess Marie, also wore her wedding tiara, with a pale blue, one-shoulder gown and a fur wrap:

Beatrice & Dave: Helping Haiti

January 27th, 2010 by Ella under Britain

Princess Beatrice and boyfriend Dave Clark were out on the town in London on Tuesday evening, but they weren’t just having dinner for two or partying until all hours — instead, they were supporting quite a good cause by helping to raise money for the relief effort in Haiti.

Daily Mail reporter Georgina Littlejohn writes, “Beatrice attended the event, which was held to raise money  for the victims of the earthquake that devastated the Caribbean country two weeks ago, with boyfriend Dave Clark and nightclub promoter Guy Pelly.  She was all smiles as she mingled with guests, possibly taking a few notes on organising a huge event, having been entrusted with arranging her father, Prince Andrew’s 50th birthday celebrations.”

The fundraising event, which was organized by Zafar Rushdie, the son of Sir Salman Rushdie, was held at Circus in Covent Garden.  Musicians and celebrities were among the other guests, including television presenter Zoe Salmon — who showed up wearing the same dress as Beatrice.  Lucky for them, the dresses were in two very different colors, with Zoe in hot pink and Beatrice in traditional black.

Albert & Charlene: Under the Big Top

January 26th, 2010 by Ella under Monaco

Monaco’s Prince Albert and his longtime companion, Charlene Wittstock, were a matching pair at the awards ceremony for the 34th International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo, both sporting dark suit jackets and bright festival scarves.  The two attended the annual event on January 19 with Albert’s sister, Princess Stephanie, and her daughter, Pauline Ducruet.  Albert and Stephanie handed out prizes at the ceremony.

Charlene debuted a new hairstyle at the event: a soft, feminine waved ‘do reminiscent of Albert’s late mother, the movie star Princess Grace.  I think it’s quite flattering!

Harry & Chelsy: Roomies?

January 25th, 2010 by Ella under Britain

Katie Nicholl at the Mail on Sunday writes this week that Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy have moved in together … or, more accurately, perhaps, that they’re sometimes sharing Chelsy’s London flat on weekends.

Nicholl explains, “Harry is training as an Army Air Corps helicopter pilot at Middle Wallop in Hampshire during the week, but he is increasingly using Chelsy’s Belgravia flat as his weekend base.  Chelsy has given him a set of keys to the three-bedroom apartment, and also allows his Royal Protection Officers to stay.”

Clarence House, according to Nicholl’s source, is a wee bit crowded with Charles, Camilla, William, and occasionally Kate bunking down in the royal residence, so Harry and Chelsy have opted for her more private apartment.

Clarence House also — no surprise here — “declined to comment on the Prince’s living arrangements.”
